While 2020 has been different and novel for 1st Brookwood Scouts, the restrictions enforced did not stop the group from finding alternative ways to continue to meet goals, achieve personal aims and group games, and overall discover a new resilience in the fundamental ethos of Scouting.
During the total lockdown, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers continued to gain badges by doing camp-outs in their own gardens, helping out at home, achieving personal challenges indoors, and completing treasure hunt challenges individually outdoors. These were all made possible by sharing photos and joining group video calls.
When the lockdown was lifted during the summer and it was considered safe to physically meet while maintaining social distances, a flurry of activity occurred such as night-hikes, wide-games and crafts all out in the open.
When restrictions were again tightened, video group calls were by now familiar to all and meeting resumed to meet and enjoy board-games, quizzes, and cooking together.
All in all, 1st Brookwood’s thinking outside the box in 2020 has helped everyone find new ways to do familiar activities and the learning experience has been fun and educational.
All the best for a safe and social 2021.
